Grainger plc, the developer chosen by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Ministry of Defence to develop the Aldershot Urban Extension project, will be hosting a tent at the Aldershot Garrison Show which takes place on Saturday 2nd July. The Grainger team will be welcoming members of the public to meet the team who will be involved in managing and delivering the project. As well as providing information about the project and the site, there will be an opportunity to talk to the team and learn more about the many ways local people can get involved in the project going forward.
Grainger is working in close partnership with the DIO, Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Rushmoor Borough Council to develop the Aldershot Urban Extension project. The development will include the delivery of high quality and affordable new homes as well as green spaces and a variety of community facilities. Grainger will engage with local residents, businesses and local organisations throughout the project. The planning process is underway and a programme of public events will commence in Autumn 2011. The Aldershot Garrison Show provides an ideal opportunity for local people to get an early introduction to the team delivering the project and share their ideas and aspirations for the site and Aldershot as a whole.
John Beresford, Development Director in charge of the project at Grainger plc, said:
"Grainger is proud to be participating in the Aldershot Garrison Show this year which promises to be a great day out for all the family.
“We are looking forward to introducing ourselves to the community and building strong partnerships around this exciting project.”
Grainger will regenerate the land at Aldershot Garrison to create a mixed-use residential scheme of up to 4,500 homes together with community facilities, schools, local centres and leisure facilities.
The site has a wealth of important historical buildings and monuments and the project will be looking at ways in which these can be sensitively restored and reused where appropriate. The development will deliver a vibrant new neighbourhood that will be integrated with Aldershot by its physical connections, shared use of community facilities, new economic development opportunities and a strong sense of local identity made visible through place making. The Grainger team is now working towards submitting a planning application in the spring of 2012.
