GRAINGER BACKS SHELTER’S HfL CAMPAIGN
Grainger plc supports Shelter's Homes for London campaign to counteract the growing housing crisis in London
Grainger plc, the UK's largest listed residential landlord and manager, today announces its support for Shelter's Homes for London (HfL) campaign in a move to get housing to the top of London’s political agenda.
The housing and homelessness charity’s campaign is calling on the next Mayor of London to create a new body, Homes for London, which would oversee London's housing strategy focussing on both housing standards and delivering new supply. It is believed that this would give housing the same leadership and co-ordination that transport has benefitted from through Transport for London.
HfL will campaign for the next Mayor to adopt key ideas, including:
- Homes that Londoners can afford – deliver a minimum of 33,400 new homes in London each year that are affordable for Londoners; for sale, to rent or through shared ownership;
- Family-friendly rental contracts – giving families stability and security, whilst giving landlords reliable tenants for longer periods;
- Rogue landlord prosecution team – to identify and punish rogue landlords;
- London Lettings Service – offering London’s private renters a single, trustworthy one-stop shop when they are looking to rent a home.
Grainger has been calling for improved standards and increased supply in the private rented sector and has championed for a greater emphasis on professionalism among property managers and lettings agents.
Nick Jopling, Executive Property Director at Grainger said:
"The private rented sector is becoming commonplace for many Londoners. It is critical that there is choice and quality for the consumer so that no one is forced to live in sub-standard accommodation and that is why we are backing Shelter's Homes for London campaign. We hope it cements housing at the top of London's agenda."
