We are committed to developing and retaining our colleagues. At Grainger, learning and development is essential for fostering
colleague growth, enhancing skills, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement . By incorporating these internal learning and development opportunities, it helps Grainger to cultivate a skilled, adaptable, and motivated workforce, driving overall success and innovation.
At Grainger, we have a number of learning and developing opportunities which are open to everyone. We have several effective processes to support colleague s internally, namely
- Performance Development Reviews (PDR) - Managers work very closely with colleagues to create personalised growth and development objectives that outline career objectives, and the skills needed to achieve them. This approach aligns business aspirations and organizational goals, boosting engagement and retention.
- Career Development Framework – This framework is designed to support colleague development and career progression. Managers work with colleagues to map out a structure of the skills and knowledge required for each role at the various stages and help colleagues to understand the competencies required for each role.
- Mentoring Programs: Every year, Grainger runs a Mentoring Scheme. We pair mentees with seasoned mentors to facilitate knowledge transfer and skill development. Work shadowing allows employees to observe and learn from experts, enhancing their understanding of various roles within Grainger
- Bite-Size Learning :To provide short, focused training sessions so that both colleagues and People Managers can easily integrate their learning into their daily roles and responsibilities.
- Cross-Departmental Projects and Secondments: At Grainger, we encourage collaboration among colleagues from different departments to work on shared projects. This approach promotes diverse perspectives, enhances problem-solving abilities, and strengthens interdepartmental relationships.
- Workshops and Conferences: We also offer opportunities for colleagues to attend external or internal workshops and seminars. These events provide exposure to new ideas, industry trends, and networking opportunities, contributing to professional growth.
- Leadership and Management Training: At Grainger, we believe in developing our current and future leadership so that they can effectively manage their teams , projects and ultimately equipping colleagues with the skills to improve team performance and help Grainger to achieve it’s organisational goals.
